Reasons to pause

# Leave room to pause before paying.

A price conversation can wait while you check a claim. Keep the advert, the exact product name and the written quote together. That makes it easier to ask a focused question or explain a concern later.

## Approval language that does not add up

FDA is short for the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. agency that reviews medicines.

“Compounded” means a doctor or pharmacist has prepared the medicine for a patient. Calling that product “FDA-approved” contradicts the FDA’s September 26, 2026 information: compounded medicines have no such approval.

Watch for “FDA registered” or “NDC” in a sales claim. Registration records a business with the FDA. The letters NDC stand for National Drug Code, a number identifying a drug listing. Neither shows product approval under the FDA information dated September 26, 2026.

Ask for the exact product and the approval being claimed. Keep a screenshot of the wording.

### A prescription cannot be skipped

Before prescription medicine is supplied, federal law requires a valid order written by an authorised prescriber, as of September 26, 2026.

A short checkout process is not an answer to the question of who has assessed you.

## Promises and payment pressure

New York’s September 28, 2026 rules prohibit doctors and physician assistants from promising a cure or making claims about services or prices they cannot back up.

The Federal Trade Commission’s July 2026 alert calls it a scam warning when an online seller insists on payment only by wire, bank transfer, payment app, gift card or cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency means digital money, often called crypto.

Pause when a seller refuses an ordinary explanation of a charge. Ask to take the quote away and read it before paying.

A closer look can come before a decision.

## Where a concern can go

For complaints about New York doctors or physician assistants, the September 28, 2026 guidance points to the Department of Health’s Office of Professional Medical Conduct.

Nurse, pharmacist and pharmacy complaints go instead to the State Education Department’s Office of Professional Discipline.

The Attorney General’s Health Care Helpline is a route for health-plan and care-billing problems.

- [Doctor or physician-assistant complaints](https://www.health.ny.gov/professionals/doctors/conduct/file_a_complaint.htm)

Read the Department of Health’s filing instructions before sending a concern.

- [Nursing and pharmacy complaints](https://www.op.nysed.gov/enforcement/professional-misconduct-enforcement)

Use the Education Department’s professional-discipline route for these professions.

- [Help with health billing and coverage](https://ag.ny.gov/resources/individuals/health-care-insurance/health-care-helpline)

The Attorney General’s intake process can assign an advocate or refer the matter to the right agency.

## For a severe reaction, seek urgent help

MedlinePlus lists breathing difficulty and swelling involving the tongue or face among possible symptoms of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction.

The MedlinePlus advice checked September 17, 2026 calls for emergency-room care when symptoms are severe.

Keep this thought

A clear product name, a proper assessment and a traceable care team matter more than a reassuring sales line.
